One day, in sitting down to paint, I picked up my singular palette knife, which was caked with acrylic. I got out a box cutter and began to hack at the paint, and after a couple cuts, saw that the sliced surface held a landscape. The knife was retired on the spot, and I mixed paint a little less thoroughly until I could buy new ones.
I now have several palette knives, just in case.
